Markets of Leipzig adds a creative twist to gameplay. In the Middle Ages, Leipzig sat at a trading crossroads with Frankfurt to the west, Stettin to the north, Wroclaw to the east and Rome to the south.
This is reflected at the start of the game, where the 4 double-sized landscape tiles are placed together so that the four districts of Leipzig are connected to form the city.
A road leads out from each quarter, offering players the chance to send a meeple to a district of their choice. These are: the wagonmaking quarter, minting quarter, bookbinding quarter and the tannery quarter. These all give different bonuses to players.
The mini expansion is brand new and contains 4 double-sized landscape tiles and 2 additional separate tiles for Carcassonne Amazonas. The English and German rules are included inside the shrink wrapping. The new Carcassonne artwork is featured, playable with both the original and new versions of the base game.
